History

The history of iLink begins in 1979, when the computer information center of the VENTSPILS COMMERCIAL PORT was founded. On the territory of the port was established the teleprocessing network Cics, which serviced the implemented tasks of the DBVS ADABAS.

In 1993 as a result of port reorganization services of the ACS (automated control system) department began to use other enterprises: KĀLIJA PARKS, VenOil (later Ventbunkers), as well as national enterprises (Border Police, police and others).

In 1989 the local area network was created and the first server with the operating system Novell was set up. Since information technologies were developing, in 1996 the network was considerably expanded. The territorially distant networks of port administration and transfer areas were united, therefore the number of computers united into one network exceeded 100 units. The created computer network united the Business centre, port administration, import and export area administrations, VTE administration, „OSTAS FLOTE”, „MINERAL-TRANS-SERVISS”, „KĀLIJA PARKS”, „FERROTRANS”. The total number of computers exceeded 200 units. There were 12 servers in the network running Windows Server 2000 and 2003, Novell and Linux.

In 1996 the ACS department was reorganized in an IT department. The IT department was an independent structural unit with its own budget and run-schedule. The IT department was responsible for IT engineering supply, its setup and maintenance, as well as creating of special IT solutions.

In 2001 the new generation computer engineering and servers for many enterprises were supplied, serviced and set up. There were worked out and set up many specific accounting systems, e.g. normalization system, Navision Attain etc.

In order to increase the speed of data transmission between the port areas since 2002 the company has been performing the project of creating optical cables network. Currently network “iLink” using optical cables ensures interconnection and operation of such enterprises’ local area networks as the JSC “VENTSPILS TIRDZNIECĪBAS OSTA”, JSC “KĀLIJA PARKS”, JSC “VENTBUNKERS” Ltd.

On July 17th, 2003 in order to improve the quality of customer service, expand the range of services and increase the number of clients the IT department was formed into separate company iLink Ltd. The principal owner and promoter of the company became the JSC „VENTSPILS TIRDZNIECĪBAS OSTA”. During this time the number of iLink clients has grown up from 5 to 106, and the range and volume of provided services has increased.
